HAIR EXTENSION CARE

MAINTAIN YOUR COVETED HAIR. YOU’VE ELEVATED YOUR HAIR GAME WITH PREMIUM HAIR EXTENSIONS –
NOW IT’S TIME TO TAKE CARE OF THEM.

  • When it comes to maintaining the longevity of your hair extensions, proper washing techniques are essential.

Follow these top tips to ensure a thorough and effective wash that keeps your extensions looking flawless.

Wait 48 Hours Before Washing (For Tape-In Extensions Only)

The first crucial step is to wait 48 hours before the initial wash. This delay ensures the tape adhesive fully sets, providing a robust and enduring hold.

    Brushing for a Tangle-Free Experience

Before stepping into the shower, gently brush your hair extensions in one downward motion. This initial step helps prevent matting and tangling during the washing process. Use a soft-bristle brush or a specifically designed extension brush to ensure you’re treating your extensions with the utmost care.

    Ensuring Every Inch Is Clean

While washing your hair, pay special attention to the areas underneath and between the rows of your extensions. These areas can accumulate natural oils, sweat, and product buildup, so be sure to work the shampoo through them diligently. A gentle massage with your fingertips will help ensure a thorough cleanse.

    Opting For a Double Wash

If it’s been five days or more since your last wash, consider a double wash for a truly refreshed feel. The first wash removes initial dirt and buildup, while the second wash deeply cleanses and ensures that your extensions are as revitalized as your natural hair.

    Rinsing With Care

When it’s time to rinse out the shampoo, do so in a downward motion. This technique helps prevent unnecessary tangles and ensures that the shampoo is thoroughly washed away from both your natural hair and extensions.

    Squeezing Out Excess Water

After rinsing, gently squeeze out excess water from your hair. Avoid wringing or rubbing, as this can cause tangling. A gentle, downward-squeezing motion helps remove water without compromising the integrity of your extensions.

    Detangling With Precision

Once you step out of the shower, take a moment to thoroughly detangle your damp hair extensions. Use a wet brush specifically designed for use on wet hair, and work through each section with care. Starting from the ends and working your way up, this step ensures a smooth and tangle-free finish.

  • Brush thoroughly throughout the day.

Hold the base of the extensions while you brush, or put your fingers over to protect. Always brush tangles from the bottom and work your way up.

Always brush thoroughly and brush out every knot or tangle. If you do not brush thoroughly, extensions can get matted which can cause damage to your own hair as well as the extensions.

Maintaining your hair extensions requires more than just their initial application.

Proper care is crucial to ensure you make the most out of your investment. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps to elevate your care routine and safely brush your extensions to extend their lifespan.

    The Right Brush

Opt for an extension-safe brush, such as a wet brush designed to untangle hair and extensions delicately, without any tension or pulling.

    Brushing Technique: Precision is Key

Approach brushing with precision. Focus on each row individually, avoiding contact with the top of your wefts – the anchor of your extensions – to prevent unnecessary strain.

    Step 1: Moisturize

Prepare your extensions by lightly misting them with leave-in conditioner or a detangling spray. This preps the wefts for seamless brushing.

Step 2: Start at the Bottom

Brush from the ends of your extensions, working your way upwards with patience and care.

    Step 3: Provide Support

While brushing, provide additional support by holding the base of your hair or the top of the extension rows. This reduces any strain on your natural hair.

Consistency is Key: Daily Brushing Routine

Embrace consistency by incorporating a daily brushing routine.

Dedicate a few moments, 2-3 times a day, to gently brush your extensions – we recommend purchasing a travel brush to keep in your bag so you can brush throughout the day. Follow these straightforward steps to ensure your extensions look and feel fresh throughout the day.

  • Avoid pulling or using strong tension on the extensions.

Blowdry the base all the way after washing.

Use oil daily on the extensions and use a deep conditioner every time you wash. (Do not use oils and conditioners near roots on tape-in extensions)

    Perfecting the Pre-Styling Technique

Unlock the potential of your extensions starts with the drying process after you shower. Begin by rough drying your hair using your hands, allowing you to remove the majority of the moisture gently. This method is not only time-efficient but also prevents excessive pulling or stress on your extensions. When your hair is approximately 85% dry, transition to using a brush. This technique helps in smoothing out your hair, paving the way for a sleek and polished finish.

    The Secret to Heat Styling

Heat styling is an art, and like any masterpiece, it requires a protective layer. We encourage you to use heat protectants to shield your extensions from potential damage. To apply, dispense the product onto your hands and gently distribute it through the ends of your hair. This practice not only safeguards your hair from heat but also keeps it hydrated and nourished, ensuring the extensions remain luscious and vibrant. Remember, the roots of your hair are naturally protected by your scalp's oils, so focus the product on the ends where extra care is needed. (avoid direct contact with tape-in tape and k-tip keratin)

    Gentle Styling for Lasting Beauty

The tools you choose can make a significant difference in the health and appearance of your extensions. Avoid round brushes and those with bristles featuring balls on the ends, as they can stretch, break, and entangle your hair. Instead, opt for styling tools designed to respect and preserve the integrity of your extensions, ensuring each strand remains smooth and resilient.

  • Brush thoroughly before going to sleep. This is a great time to add oils to the extensions. (Do not use oils and conditioners near roots on tape-in extensions)

Braid at night. Two french braids is the most secure but one single three strand braid will also work. Secure with a Silk Scrunchie.

Cover with a Silk Scarf or use a Silk Pillowcase or both.

Never go to sleep with wet hair.

When it comes to preserving your flawless hairstyle, nighttime care is essential.

Whether you have straight, wavy, or curly hair extensions, follow our simple yet effective techniques to ensure your hair looks stunning in the morning.

    For Sleek and Chic Hair

For a sleek and polished look, follow these steps:

Gather your hair, including the extensions, into a high ponytail at the top of your head. Use a silk scrunchie to secure it in place. This prevents tangling and minimizes friction, reducing the risk of damage.

Further protect your hair by wearing a silk bonnet over the high ponytail. The silk material helps retain moisture and prevents excessive friction, keeping your hair smooth and frizz-free.

    Effortless Waves

To maintain beautiful waves while you sleep, try this technique:

Divide your hair into two sections and create two loose braids using silk scrunchies to secure the ends. These scrunchies are gentle on your hair and won’t cause breakage. Once you have your braids, tuck them into a silk bonnet. This step prevents your waves from getting flattened, matted, or tangled while you sleep.

    Curly and Boucy

For those with curly hair extensions, here’s how to wake up with gorgeous curls:

Gather your hair into a high bun at the top of your head and secure it with a silk scrunchie. This keeps your curls intact and prevents them from getting stretched out or losing their bounce. Don’t forget to cover your high bun with a silk bonnet. This dual protection method ensures your curls remain defined and vibrant.

By incorporating these nighttime care techniques into your routine, you can enjoy the beauty of your hair extensions for an extended period. Whether you prefer sleek, wavy, or curly styles, these steps ensure you wake up to a fabulous hair day, every day.

  • Avoid sunscreen containing Oxybenzone and Avobenzone. These ingredients cause a chemical reaction which leaves the extensions stained pink or orange. This can not be removed.

Avoid Chlorine. This can leave the extensions discolored, darker, tangled, matted and/or damaged. It is best to not get your hair wet if possible when swimming in a chlorine pool.

Avoid salt water. If you do go in salt water, prep the hair by wetting and adding a deep leave in conditioner prior. Keep a detangling brush and conditioner with you to brush and detangle throughout the day for a beach day.

Here are some of our hair care tips and tricks for swimming with extensions:

    • If you swim regularly, wear a swim cap to protect your extensions.

    • Keep your hair off your face and neck by putting it in a ponytail, bun, or braid. Rinse your hair thoroughly with clean water immediately after swimming to remove any chlorine or saltwater residue.

    • Brush each row individually before and after swimming to prevent matting and tangling.

    • Keep your natural hair and extensions healthy and hydrated by using leave-in conditioners, hydrating balms, and hair oils to prevent your natural hair and the extensions from drying out and becoming discolored from the sun.

  • Working out with hair extensions doesn’t have to be a challenge. By following these maintenance tips, you can ensure your extensions stay fresh, tangle-free, and odorless, even during your most intense workouts. Embrace your fitness journey without compromising your hair extension investment.

Protecting Your Hair Extensions During Outdoor Workouts

Working out outdoors exposes your hair extensions to the elements. The harshest element of them all being the sun.

Here are some tips to protect them:

    1. Use a UV protectant to help keep your hair color from fading & to keep your extensions hydrated.

    2. Wearing a hat can also help keep your hair from turning brassy from prolonged exposure to the sun as well as blocking out dust and pollen that can sit on your hair extensions and cause them to feel sticky and tangled.

    3. If you’ll be exercising for an extended period, consider wearing a moisture-locking headscarf or headband made from moisture-wicking fabric. This will help prevent excessive drying and maintain hydration in your hair

Select Hairstyles that Minimize Friction & Tangling

When you participate in an exercise that involves a lot of movement it’s best to avoid friction or having your hair extensions sit on top of your sweaty skin.

Here are few tips for protective hair styles:

    1. Put your hair in a ponytail, braid, or bun.  Make sure to use a silk scrunchie, this reduces friction and minimizes tangling and matting.

    2. Wearing a headband can help absorb and limit your hair from getting drenched in sweat which can dry it the hair extensions out over time.

    Keep Your Roots Dry

We will say it again: Ensure the top of your wefts is completely dry to prevent moisture buildup and potential issues. If you do not have enough time to shampoo after a workout please absorb any sweat along your hairline or scalp or consider a scalp serum.

    Detangle, Detangle, Detangle

Preventing tangles is essential for keeping your extensions in top shape.

    Follow these detangling techniques:

    1. Keep a hair extension safe brush and a detangler in your gym bag to keep your hair extensions tangle-free.

    2. Make sure to brush immediately after your workouts.

  • Our textured extensions are designed to give you a flawless, natural look that blends seamlessly with your own hair. With proper care, you can maintain their beauty and longevity for months to come. Follow these simple tips to keep your textured extensions looking fresh and fabulous:

    Gentle Detangling

Before washing or styling, detangle your textured extensions using a wide-tooth comb or your fingers. Start from the ends and work your way up to avoid breakage. Always detangle when the hair is dry to prevent unnecessary stress on the bonds.

    Hydration is Key

Textured hair requires extra moisture to stay soft and defined. Use a sulfate-free, hydrating shampoo and conditioner to cleanse and nourish your extensions. For best results, apply a deep conditioning treatment once a week to keep your extensions moisturized and healthy. (Do not use oils and conditioners near roots on tape-in extensions)

    Drying Your Extensions

After washing, gently squeeze out excess water with a towel. Avoid rubbing or wringing the hair. Let your extensions air-dry whenever possible to preserve their texture. If you must use heat, apply a heat protectant and use a diffuser on a low heat setting.

    Defining Your Curls

To enhance the texture of your extensions, apply a lightweight curl cream or leave-in conditioner. Use a scrunching motion to define your curls or waves without weighing them down. For more definition, try twisting or braiding the hair while damp and letting it air dry.

    Nighttime Care

Protect your extensions at night by sleeping on a silk or satin pillowcase to reduce friction. You can also loosely braid or twist your hair, or wear a silk scarf or bonnet to maintain the texture and prevent tangling while you sleep.

    Heat Styling

While our textured extensions are heat-safe, it’s best to minimize the use of heat styling tools to maintain the integrity of the curl pattern. When necessary, always use a heat protectant spray, and opt for lower heat settings to prevent damage.

    Routine Maintenance

Schedule regular maintenance appointments with your stylist to ensure your extensions remain in optimal condition. Your stylist can also recommend the best products for your hair type and help adjust any bonds that may have loosened.

  • Do not use purple shampoo or dry shampoo on extensions.
